HARARE – Ambitious Premier Soccer League runners-up Ngezi Platinum have appointed Dutchman Errol Akbay as their coach for the next two seasons.
The former Highlanders coach has been lined up to replace Tonderai Ndiraya, who was sacked in October as their championship challenge faded.
Akbay’s agent Denford Mutashu confirmed that Akbay was definitely returning to Zimbabwe, but would not name the club.
But the Mhondoro-based club confirmed Akbay’s arrival at the club’s end of year awards on Thursday night, according to The Herald.
It remains unclear if Akbay will allow Clifton Kadurira, who took charge of Ngezi’s final five games, to stay on as an assistant or he will be bringing in his own technical team.
Ngezi, who are bankrolled by the platinum mine, were promoted under Ndiraya in 2016 and finished in the top eight in their maiden season in 2017 before going on to clinch the Chibuku Super Cup.
Club bosses were however made to watch as fellow platinum miners, FC Platinum of Zvishavane, won back-to-back league titles including the just ended campaign.
Now they have been forced to look beyond the country’s borders to try and end FC Platinum’s dominance.
